Kyloe is billed as Edinburgh's leading gourmet steak restaurant, does it live up to the promise?
Located above Huxley's bar in the heart of the city Kyloe is a meat eaters paradise, no quarter is given to our vegetarian friends this restaurant is meat dishes only.
The decor is very rustic with filament style lighting adding a warm touch to the modern style, it feels cosy and not to formal.
We visited on a Tuesday evening and the venue was pretty busy but they had plenty of tables free and we were soon seated perusing the menu.
We ordered from the À La Carte Menu which is available here, our waitress for the evening and gave us a full low down on the cuts of meat available and the best way to have them cooked.
This little knowledge bomb was pretty informative, I had never thought about the relationship between cooking time vs. fat breakdown going are is not always the best as some cuts will remain tough or dry due to the fat not redering down.
We settled on the Chateaubriand, heritage potatoes and peppercorn sauce and placed our order.
While waiting for our mains, we were supplied with some lovely warm bread and curried vegetable mash, the really nice thing from Kyloe was the ease of pace of the meal after finishing the appetiser we were left to relax for around twenty minutes before our main course arrived.
The steak was truly amazing, tender, juicy with no connective tissues at all, the thyme infused roast potatoes matched the steak perfectly along with sublime peppercorn sauce.
We accompanied the meal a splendid 2016 Canapi Shiraz, full of berries and a slight hint of cherry.
